Music is a passion owing to my upbringing in a family of musicians. Born as the youngest of three musical boys my parents (both music graduates, teachers and performers) had, in the late 1970s, decided to buy a wonderful, if slightly dilapidated Victorian house. It was detached and set back, away from any neighbours, and chosen with the sole reason for us all to make music freely! We grew up with music all around us attending concerts and live music throughout our early life.
Both my older brothers played instruments and wanting to hang out with them I quickly learnt to play the drums around the age of 7... although I started on the suitcase and the saucepans in the early days! As we grew up we played together as 'The Rees Boys' and then in the mid 90s created a Beatles Tribute group 'Not The Beatles' which kept us busy for the next couple of decades. This group was inspired by our obsession with our parent's vinyl collection which had incredible range of music from the 60s, 70s and 80s, my most played artists being The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Carol King, The Beach Boys and Dire Straights!
It was strange to have our Dad 'Mr Rees' teaching me and my brothers A Level music formalising our own passion for music. This led me to study Music Composition at University and go onto have my own career in music, teaching, writing and recording my own music throughout my life. I have been fortunate enough to support some of my idol Indie artists such as Chris Helme (Seahorses) & Dodgy on stage.
For the last 20 years as a performer and teacher I enjoy getting to share my passion with the next generations and take great joy from seeing former pupils go on to amazing musical adventures of their own!
